27th October 2001 - Brands Hatch
Although I was still in no condition to race I went along to the
last round to see how everyone got on and say hello to loads of
people I hadn't seen for a few months. Just like when I went to
watch at Snetterton I found it
very frustrating to not be out there particularly when a number
of guys I have previously beaten did fairly well.
Never mind, it was a good day and the weather was amazing for the
end of October. The first Rookie race of the day had a special award
for the first four places so I took a few pictures of the guys getting
their cheques and bottles of fizz. They even got interviewed for
local radio and got photographed for one of the bike papers.

Sponsorship opportunity?

The closest I got to them all year ;-)

Left to right (with the guys facing you) they are: Sam Corke, Ian
Davenport, Steve Bullimore and Barry Aldeen. To show how difficult
this year has been all the guys pictured here have got on the podium
in at least one other class of 600 racing.
Sam Corke has won Rookie and SuperSport races with Bemsee as well
as bring a regular top six finisher at MRO level. He even managed
to qualify 17th in the last National SuperSport round at Donington.
Ian Davenport has won Rookie races and managed to get on the podium
at SuperSport level. Steve Bullimore won a Rookie race and been
a regular podium visitor in the Clubman series. Barry Aldeen has
also won a Clubman race along the way.
Just my luck to pick this year to be a rookie! Any other year and
I would have finished much higher up the order. Still I managed
regular finishes in 15th and 16th places as well as a brilliant
12th (starting from 27th on the grid) at the last Snetterton round.
I was quite confident that I would manage at least one top ten before
the end of the year but it was not to be. To put it in to perspective,
my best lap time around Snetterton would have put me on the podium
in the first race there earlier this year ;-)
Roll on 2002!
