Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

My name is Mike Edwards. I am a track day instructor, bike racer, co-founder and day to day organiser of the MiniTwins race series and board member of the Association of Track Day Organisers (ATDO), amongst other things.

Why did you start this site?

When I wanted to go on my first track day back in 1997 there were very few available and even fewer being advertised. I figured that if I was having problems tracking them down then other people would have the same problems so I started listing them on my web site.

Is this a commercial venture?

We can claim to be the very first track day listing site, the largest bike track day listing site, the largest independent site and probably the largest overall track day listing site. We may not have the largest number of hits, I honestly don't know the numbers for the competition, because we don't promote ourselves as we don't make any money and have no affiliation with bigger organisations trying to turn a profit from the track day market .

There is no paid for advertising on the site and we do not charge track day organisers to have their dates listed nor riders wishing to look up dates on the site. The service has always been free to use for everybody concerned and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Although now operated by Bike Track Days Limited, the site and company are owned by me and not affiliated to any track day organiser or other party trying to make money out of the track day industry.

The links on the main page to 'Track Parts Shop' (www.trackparts.co.uk) and 'Win a Bike Competition' (www.givemethekeys.com) are also owned and operated by me. The 'Track Parts Shop' only sells a few items that I personally use and recommend whilst the 'Win a Bike Competition' is my way of raising funds to allow me to continue to sponsor up and coming racers in British racing.

What makes this different from the competition?

Aside from not making any money from the site? Some of the competition charge the organisers to have their dates listed, they have even been known to inflate the listed price compared to booking direct so that they can take a cut if you book through them.

I do this as a hobby to help out. Any links on the site to other companies or products are there because I have experience of the companies, tried their products and found the service to be worth recommending.

How are you involved in track days and bike racing?

This is what I do:

  • Chief Instructor for Motorcycle Folly.
  • Owner and operator of biketrackdays.co.uk web site.
  • Main sponsor of Matt Bond in the MRO MiniTwins series.
  • Board member of the Association of Track Day Organisers (ATDO).
  • Co-Founder and day to day organiser of the MiniTwins race series.

In the past I have also:

  • Helped write the ACU, ATDO & AMRCO* Track Day Operating Guidelines.
  • Advised the ACU & ATDO on the bike track day market.

I am also in the process of writing the ATDO track day instructors training course.

Was it you that won the British SuperSport Championship a few years ago?

No. I was only just doing my bike test when Mike 'Spike' Edwards was winning the British SuperSport 600 Championship. See www.mike-edwards.net for more details on Mike and his racing career. I know Mike quite well and he'll be having an outing on my MiniTwin race bike some time soon.

Any other information?

Not a lot else to say aside from the fact that I want to see track days improve both for the customers and the organisers. There is an awful lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to bring track days to the market and it really isn't as easy as it may appear.

Please support your track day organisers and remember that no two organisers are the same. An organiser doesn't have to be big to be professional and doesn't have to be small to have that personal touch. Give them all a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Oh and one more thing, a track day instructor is there to do a job. They are paid to be there to make your day better, make the most of them whilst you are there.

* AMRCO is the Association of Motor Racing Circuit Owners.

Biketrackdays.co.uk is the largest independent bike track day listing service in the country. As the name suggests we only list track days for bikes and can trace our history back to the tail end of 1997 making us the oldest listing service in the UK.
